Beyond The Confession: Kid Millions Reworks Harry Taussig

Kid Millions

This is a weird one but I like it a lot. Late in 2015 I was approached by Tompkins Square Records about Harry Taussig. I discovered his music while doing music supervision for a film project at Mass MOCA for the artist Clifford Ross. Taussig’s music jumped out and worked well with the project.

Later on word spread to Tompkins Square owner Josh Rosenthal that I was a fan of his music. Josh thought that a Record Store Day remix album would be interesting to try and I was game. I had no idea how to approach this but gave myself a hard deadline. I work best that way. Josh sent me downloads of Harry’s records – one was actually MP3 only. I tried a few studios and everywhere I checked was booked except Matthew Cullen in Kingston, NY. He was hesitant to work on the project because he had to leave for the UK for the holidays but I just didn’t listen to his protestations.

We worked pretty straight for two days – but I’m not an insane person. We took breaks. Josh decided he wanted a full length album so we had a lot of ground to cover. At certain points I wondered how the hell we’d get anything finished. But the record is really cool – it had to work and it did. I also had to write liner notes! Rosenthal really knows how to squeeze the final drops from projects.
